Major truck collision injures two in Martins Ferry

A recent accident involving a tractor trailer and a rented Penske box truck caused injuries and delays on the Ohio 7. The box truck rear-ended the big rig, resulting in a truck accident that trapped the box truck's driver and passenger between the dashboard and their seats. The injured had to be removed from their crushed vehicle by the Jaws of Life.

The driver sustained minor injuries, but the passenger, the 10-year-old daughter of the driver, sustained life-threatening injuries. She was flown to a nearby children's hospital. Following the crash, both lanes of the Ohio 7 were shut down, and traffic was rerouted while the scene was being cleared.

Officers on the scene received conflicting reports regarding who was at fault. The driver of the big rig, who also had his minor child in the passenger seat, reported that the box truck rear-ended him while he was slowing down at a red light. Police stated that the box truck was dragged 150 feet before the tractor trailer finally came to a stop and that both vehicles appeared to be leaking fluids.

A witness, a relative of the injured, was following the box truck at the time of the accident. She told officers that the semi abruptly changed lanes in front of the rental truck, which caused the rear-end collision. Ohio Highway Patrol officers are attempting to sort out the details of the wreck.

Truck accidents like the one that occurred in Martins Ferry can result in major damage and serious injuries. Victims of such accidents in Ohio or elsewhere, whether the collision was due to speeding, negligence, a unqualified truck driver or other factors, should seek an attorney who specializes in handling multi-vehicle accident and truck collision cases.
