New ODOT website keeps drivers informed

As technology develops, motorists have more tools than ever to keep informed about what's happening on the road and how to avoid heavy traffic, poor conditions and accidents that may slow them down. Smartphone apps and GPS units often have these features, which help motorists get a complete picture of traffic conditions.

Now the Ohio Department of Transportation has unveiled a new tool for drivers. Ohgo.com, a new website put together by the Department, The site is a re-designed and re-branded version of an earlier version, which motorists may know as Buckeye Traffic.

One key difference is Buckeye Traffic was not compatible with mobile devices, while the new device is. The new site contains much of the same information but officials said it was garnering little use because of its outdated technology.

In addition to the new ohgo.com, the Department plans to install message boards along freeways in the state, which will serve a similar purpose.

It is important to keep in mind that a mobile-compatible traffic information site is not meant to be used on a mobile phone while driving. Many people think of talking on the phone and text messaging as key distractions but using GPS devices or navigation apps can be just as dangerous.

If you or someone you love have been injured in an accident caused by a distracted or otherwise negligent motorist, the consequences can be harsh even if it was not your fault. Consider working with an experienced personal injury attorney who can protect your rights, fight for your interests and pursue any appropriate claims for damages.
